How Do I Update My Primary Bank Account?

Your primary bank account is the account used for direct deposit and, by default, for your loan or advance payments. You can switch your primary account at any time directly in the Possible app.

Looking to update your AutoPay payment method without changing your primary account? See this article.

How to Change Your Primary Bank Account

Note: This is only available for bank accounts linked through Plaid or another supported banking partner. Debit cards and manually added accounts cannot be set as a primary account.

  1. Open the Possible app.
  2. Go to Account Management.
  3. Tap the pencil icon next to the account you want to set as primary.
  4. Select "Set as Primary" in the pop-up.

The account you selected is now your primary account and will show as "Primary" on the Account Management screen.

How This Affects Your Payment Method

Whether changing your primary account also updates your payment method depends on your current setup:

  • If your primary account is also your payment method, changing your primary account will automatically update your AutoPay payment method to the new account.
  • If your AutoPay payment method is different from your primary account, changing your primary account won't affect your payment method—it will stay as-is.
  • By default, each new loan or advance will use your primary account as the payment method.

Timing matters: If your primary account is also your payment method, make sure to change it before your payment begins processing. Once processing starts, it can't be redirected.

You can still update your primary account while a payment is processing—it just won't apply to the payment already in motion. If that payment fails, you'll be able to reschedule it using your new account.

Which Accounts Are Eligible?

Not every account can be set as primary. To be eligible, an account must:

  • Be linkable through one of our banking partners in the app (e.g., via Plaid)
  • Be a traditional banking account

Debit cards and manually added accounts cannot be used as a primary account.

If the account you want to use isn't linked yet, you'll need to add it first. Learn how to add a linked bank account here.
